News from e-malt USA: Shipyard Brewing Company ends 2nd Quarter with record breaking month

The Shipyard Brewing Company announced on July 2 that it has ended the 2nd quarter with an all new brewery record. In June, Maine’s largest brewery shipped 6,380 barrels (over 89,000 cases) to more than 25 states around the U.S. This record-breaking month represents 400 more barrels (approximately 5,600 cases) than June 2004. In the last week of June alone, Shipyard shipped 1,770 barrels (24,500+ cases).

Shipyard is the 4th largest selling beer in Maine -- topped only by Anheuser Busch, Coors, and Miller.

Since 2000, The Shipyard Brewing Company has grown at a phenomenal rate of more than 10% per year. In 2004, the brewery shipped 50,508 barrels (over 700,000 cases) of its award-winning hand-crafted beer. This represents an 11.3% increase over 2003.

Nationally, in 2004 America’s craft brewers sold 7% more beer than 2003; making craft beer the fastest growing segment of the U.S. beverage alcohol industry, according to the Brewers Association, the Boulder, CO-based trade association for small U.S. brewers.

The Shipyard Brewing Company was founded in 1994 by master brewer Alan Pugsley and entrepreneur Fred Forsley. Shipyard produces 13 varieties of award-winning English style and seasonal beers and its products are distributed in over 25 states, including: Texas, California, Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Michigan. The company employs 35 people.
